knit(ing) clocks

I came across both of these this weekend. totally different, totally functional, both beautiful. these excite me.

The first one is the 365 Knitting Clock. Designed by industrial designer Siren Elise Wilhelmsen, this clock knits a 2-meter scarf over the course of one year. The clock includes a circular knitting machine with 48 needles, a thread spool, a thread holder, and roll of yarn- knits clockwise.

The 365 knitting clock was made to measure and register time in a three-dimensional form to visualize the otherwise invisible time factor that connects us all. Instead of showing time in numbers, the tool we normally use to understand and organize time. It is knitting the hours and the days and shows the time as something that is constantly moving, changing and developing. Every passing of a half hour is marked by the knitting of mesh, a full year results in a 2-m-long scarf. After one year, the yarn has to be replaced with a new one and a new year can be knitted. The year that has past is this year's scarf. And the coming year is the thread still unknitted.

This clock is the Gomitolo Oversized knit Clock. This comes in an array of colors, 2 sizes (so I have found). Gomitolo is the result of a collaboration between an industrial designer and a fashion designer; Carlo and Benedetta Tamborini. The clock is covered in an unusual knitted soft cotton cover which can be removed for washing. The other unusual aspect of this striking clock is its large size.

Opening Ceremony x A is for Apple

Leopard print blazers, mixed stripe shirts, ladylike blouses....sound like your wardrobe? (sounds a little like mine). It's the new collaboration between Opening Ceremony and A is for Apple, a children's clothing line based in Hong Kong...brilliant. Probably overpriced, but definitely adorable.

rudi gernreich + peggy moffit

rudi gernreich was a revolutionary designer, known best for his topless swimsuit (or monokini) and mod mondian-like, colorblocked shift dresses. huge activist for unisex clothing, and visionary with use of fabrication and print. here are some photos below of his infamous muse and model, peggy moffit- an icon of the fashion scene in the 60s.

Hedi Slimane’s London Teenage Study

these photos are so amazing...i love. these are from a 4 day shoot back in 2008 with Heidi Slimane and Nicola Formichettion, studying teens on the streets of London.

Every model has their own story with this shoot. There were kids that we had our eyes on in the earliest stages of research and there were kids that we approached having a coffee on brick lane. We found people at gigs, in clubs, everywhere. for the week of the shoot we basically went anywhere we thought we would find amazing characters and then shot them the next morning.
